Best Movies of 2015 (So Far…)

Hope you are all enjoying the hamburgers, hot dogs, and fireworks for this holiday weekend. I assume that’s what you all are doing….The most generic things I can think of to keep this post relevant years from now. Anyways, here are the best films of the year so far. How Not To: Detroit

There is no denying that the city of Detroit, Michigan has fallen on hard times. In 2013 the city declared bankruptcy and it seems like things are not going to get better in the immediate future. Of course that means it gives the film industry the opportunity to showcase their message on how tragic the events are unfolding right now. We have seen several films, and television programs, take place in the Motor City with various results. Honestly it feels as though that the industry does not particularly care about the inhabitants of the city nor wanting to show how we can solve anything.

It Follows (Review)

A lot of filmmakers try to pay homage to what influenced them to get into the industry. Unfortunately when people decide to do that it never really works because you cannot outdo your idols. When you watch a movie like It Follows you can instantly tell Director David Robert Mitchell loves horror films from the 1980s. It Follows feels like a time capsule but also feels remarkably fresh in today’s age of bloated, and non-scary, horror films. Because of its retro outlook it makes Mitchell’s sophomore outing one of the best horror films to come out in years.
