Out and About in LA: FALL Corgi Beach Day 2016

A few months ago the “SoCal Corgi Beach Day” group held their annual summer event in Long Beach. While not owning a Corgi myself I decided to go down to Long Beach and cover the event. What I didn’t realize is that the group decides to do the same event TWICE a year. This time the Fall portion of the event took place way down south of LA in Huntington Beach. So while most of you are handling the start of the cold spell in your region I will personally go to see some dogs frolics on the beach. So enjoy me “winning” with the highlights:

Out and About in Culver: Culver City ArtWalk 2016

The neighborhood of Culver City is very proud of its own arts district. Driving down Washington Blvd you will see many galleries and studios showcasing today’s generation of artists. Once a year Culver City decides to highlight their arts district with an official “ArtWalk”. If you happened to be at Washington Blvd on October 8th (between Helms and La Cienega Blvd) then you could witness some truly fine pieces of art in Los Angeles.

Out and About in Culver: Culver City Centennial

I’ve been living in Culver City for about a year and a half now. It has been a great neighborhood to get my footing in Los Angeles and enjoy my new life out in the West Coast. I’ve had my share of adventures in Culver City but I did not realize it was gonna have its own, very special anniversary in 2016. About 100 years ago a man by the name of Harry Culver had his dreams come true with the formation of Culver City. Now, if you look at the history books he did this in 1917…which is NOT a hundred years. Irregardless of this “slight” oversight the town has decided to celebrated and I decided to go downtown Culver to see what all the hubbub would be.  Continue reading

Out and About in LA: We Hate Movies at the Hollywood Improv

If there is one thing Los Angeles is known for it’s…Well “movies”. But another form of media the city loves to consume is comedy. Some of the country’s greatest comedians got their start here in LA and, in one form or another, gone on to great success. It was surprising to me that I have not gone to one of the more famous stand up venues in the city. Luckily that all changed when a certain podcast group in New York City came to town.

Out and About in LA: Rowan at Dodgers Stadium

A little over a year ago I went to my first Dodgers game. (You can find the post here so I won’t bore you with another tour of the facilities.) Dodgers Stadium itself is pretty damn gorgeous and on this Saturday jaunt it was an absolutely perfect day to play baseball. But what makes a perfect day of baseball even better is to be with friends. So a few of my pals from Rowan University came together to what ended up being a fun day for all. Here are some highlights below:

Out and About in LA: Brouwerij West Brewery

If there is one thing you should know about me it is that I am not much of a drinker. I dabble in Hard Cider’s or Hard Soda’s, but overall alcohol and me do not get along. But we live in an age where loving beer is at an all time high or, more specifically, the love of CRAFTING beer is at an all time high. There are breweries all around this great country of ours but recently I decided to partake in a brewery down South LA.

Blog Update: On Vacation

Hey guys!

You may have noticed that I haven’t updated my blog regularly the last couple of weeks. Well there is a reason for that and it is a good reason:

I got a new job!

I won’t get into specifics but now that I am with a new company I need to take some time to get into their system. Also, with a new job comes money and I must be honest in that money has been a little tight as of late. So going all around Los Angeles and anywhere else in the West side of the country is gonna have to be put on hold for a while. But don’t worry! You’ll still see some postings here or there until I get a handle on what my schedule is like. I know for a fact in August and September there is at least ONE event I’m going to and it can definitely change in the future.

Don’t be too upset if you miss any future content! If you go to any of the tabs up above you will see a bevy of content from the last 1 1/2 years. It has been a wild ride since moving out here in LA and things will only get crazier as time moves on. I want to thank everyone who has visited my blog regularly for this long and expect bigger things to come down the pipe!

Out and About in LA: Corgi Beach Day 2016

Who doesn’t love dogs? I love dogs and Los Angeles are overrun with the cute devils. Because of that we sometimes get a major celebration of the pups and have them all in one place. One of my favorite breeds is the Corgi; a hyperactive and sometimes the most silly of the breeds. Down south in Long Beach at Rosie’s Dog Beach there was a gathering of all things Corgi with “Corgi Beach Day”! Let me tell you that I have never seen such a huge gathering of dogs in my life. I would make this kind of meet up 24/7 if I could. But for the few hours I was there I was able to pet, take a picture of, and run into all kind of Corgis. So get ready to say ‘Aw’ with me:

Great Movie Scenes #022: Independence Day (1996)

Let’s be honest: We ALL know this moment in Independence Day. It is the most quoted line in the film, apart from that kick-ass speech by President Whitmore towards the end, and it obviously has left an enormous impression for people on Will Smith. But can you IMAGINE what this line would’ve been like if it came out today? The internet was a thing in 1996 but not even close to what it is today. In our Reddit/Buzzfeed culture “Welcome to Earth” would have probably destroyed our brains. Or maybe it would have been so overplayed we would’ve been sick of it after the first couple of weeks.

Who knows if this (pointless) sequel will even come close to the level of popularity and be as quotable as the original. I somehow doubt it will come even close to matching the mindless, cheesy, and totally awesome sci-fi action epic. If there’s no Will Smith to welcome a slimy alien to our planet then it has already lost me.
